Tucked away through a labyrinth of alleyways lies a felt hat studio in the art district of Istanbul, Turkey. After studying woodworking in university, Sabri Tunca, the studio’s owner, took up his true passion, working with felt. Ever since, he’s made a living by creating elaborate, vibrant, and wacky felt hats which sell around the world online.

I apprenticed Sabri for one month to learn more about the felting process and make my own hats. Below are a sample of some of the 50+ tailor-made hats that I helped create.

Each hat is inspired by the magical world of Alice in Wonderland. Their designs capture elements from this classic tale through varying colors, shapes, and sizes. It takes 4-6 hours to dye, form, roll, and dry each hat before they can be shipped to buyers.
